Obituary

Audrey Ramon Holmes was born on December 21, 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio to Ahmad Holmes and Audrey Hudson.  She died unexpectedly on July 3, 2021.  Affectionately known as "Dudney" to her family and close friends, Audrey was a long-time resident of Houston, Texas but spent most of her early years in El Paso, TX. She graduated from Coronado High School at age 17 and married the love of her life, Rufus Hamilton III in 1978.  To this union, three children were born: Rufus IV, Jason Tyron, and Nicole.  Audrey possessed an amazing capacity to love and to empathize with others.  In her Friendswood, TX neighborhood, where she raised her children she was known as a "second mother" to her children's friends.  If you wanted to be friends with Mrs. Hamilton, you first had to be friends with one of the kids.  As a child, Audrey was the baby girl of the family for nearly 10 years.  Yet when baby sister Angela arrived, she was the first in line to care for and love the new baby. Upon this foundation, the rock of a loving relationship was built that has endured for over 50 years and which will continue for eternity.  Audrey was known for traveling.  She never shied away from a cruise ship or from the chance to travel with friends.  Audrey worked as an HR specialist and was very knowledgeable about HR and benefit programs.

Audrey had a loving family and great friends who will forever treasure her spirit. Those who knew Audrey will smile at the thought of her funny stories, her infectious laugh, her quiet dignity that made her appear regal, the way she sometimes talked loudly - having two "big ol sons" they say, made her this way, the way she got work done and the way she brought light to every situation. Audrey was gentle, brave, loyal, strong and incredibly fun.  She was the life of the party who was quick to befriend others.  She was generous, full of energy and loved everything that life had to offer; qualities she passed to her daughter.  She shined her light bright even during life’s darkest moments and now her light shines even brighter in heaven.

Audrey is survived by her mother: Audrey Jean Holmes; children: Rufus Hamilton, IV, and Nicole Hamilton Smith (Marcus); stepson: Andre Hamilton; siblings Sylvester Holmes (Louito), Rose Minton, Joseph Holmes (Curhonda), Ahmad Holmes, Angela Ramos Fields, Lord Morgan Carey, Nazer Sedeeq Holmes (Kathleen); the surviving members of the Fab Five: Beverly Brown, Bonnie Munds (Andre), Gina Hudson, and Antoinette Thorne (Derrick); her uncles: Ernest and Forrest Hudson (Joyce); nephews: Blaize Fields, Grant Fields, Corey Minton, Blair Minton, Sylvester David Holmes, Nathan Holmes (Megan), Joseph (Jo Jo) Holmes II, Jamar (Trey) Holmes, Ciam Holmes, Oliver Holmes; nieces: Penny Rose Holmes Thompson (Toby), Stephanie Holmes, Monica Williams, and Makayla Williams; great nieces: Diamond Singletary and Violet Holmes; great nephew: Jeremiah Birt; special friends: Valencia Hogan, Pam Collins, Leticia (Lety) Valdez, and numerous cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Hamilton III, her father, Ahmad Holmes and her beloved son Jason Tyron Hamilton.
