DOLLIE EVANS-AUSTIN Obituary

~ Mrs. Dollie Evans-Austin ~

 

Dollie was born Laveta Irene Hanks on November 25, 1929 to Laura Jackson & Sam Henderson.  When she was 2 years old she was blessed to be adopted by James & Julia Evans.

 

Dollie was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Abner White.  She was a faithful member from childhood singing in the choir and usher board.  She sang with a group called Glorified Voices.  Dollie attended Douglas Elm and Jack Yates High School.  She worked 20 years or more years for Battlesteins department store. 

 

Dollie was married to Ennis Austin.  She raised 5 children, and helped raise a host of grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also helped to raise some of her cousins, Leonard, Mary Ann, and Louis Pink, as a young girl herself.  Dollie also took care of her parents James and Julia until their death.

Dollie is preceded in death by all of her parents, two daughters, Felicia Austin, and Faith Evans, husband, brothers, Rev J.N. Hanks, Woodville, TX, Thomas Davis of Los Angeles, CA, Ura David of San Diego, CA.

Dollie leaves cherished memories in the hearts of her children, Gwenderlin, Chevela (Freddy) Jackson, and Adolphus (Denene) Evans; sister, Rosalie A. Johnson of Houston, TX; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. 

A Celebration of her life will be held March 22, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Respect of Life Funeral Chapel.  Burial will follow at Houston Memorial Gardens in Pearland, Texas.
